Dear Whitworth community,

As we welcome our newest students to the Whitworth family, and as we welcome back everyone else from Jan Term Break, I want to remind you of an important event tomorrow.

Please join the entire Whitworth community tomorrow (Thursday) for Spring Convocation at 11:00 a.m., in Cowles Auditorium. This is an opportunity for all students and employees to gather to celebrate our shared mission and to ask for God's blessings upon our community as we live, learn, and grow together this semester. All 9:30 a.m. classes will dismiss early at 10:30 a.m., and all non-essential university offices will close to allow students and employees time to walk to Cowles Auditorium. Whitworth's provost and executive vice president, Dr. Carol Simon, will deliver the convocation address, and Dr. Dale Soden, professor of history, will deliver Whitworth's annual Founder's Day presentation. We’ll also bestow a very special recognition upon Dr. Ron Frase. Please make plans to attend this important event in the life of our community.

Finally, although this winter has brought us some milder temperatures and more glimpses of the sun, cold and flu season has reared its ugly head, and there are number of students and employees who are ill. Please be careful to wash hands regularly, practice good hygiene, and obtain a flu shot if you haven’t already. All of these practices increase the likelihood of getting through the next couple of months in a healthy way. Whitworth’s health center is open and eager to meet your needs should you require assistance.

See you tomorrow at convocation, and have a great start to the spring semester!

Go Bucs!
