Invitation from Beck A. Taylor: Colloquy on Civil Discourse Feb. 19

February 13, 2018

Dear Whitworth Community,

Please join me for an important discussion that will address the question, "Can we disagree without being disagreeable?" It's the second of three discussions included in the President's Colloquy on Civil Discourse. It will take place on Feb.19 at 7 p.m. in the Seeley G. Mudd Chapel.

Whitworth faculty members Nathan King, Nicole Sheets, Patty Bruininks and Fred Johnson will discuss a range of important issues including tolerance and the use of intellectual virtues like humility and open-mindedness and their power in preventing negative interaction.

This forum will be an opportunity to provide the community with a set of tools and techniques conducive to constructive discussions. Those tools will then be applied during the third discussion, scheduled for April 16, where we will address the question, "How free should free speech be?"

This will be a great opportunity to ask tough questions that will lead to thoughtful conversation. I hope to see you there.
