Way Forward: Living on Campus

August 17, 2021
Attachments
Dear students,

The residence life and dining hall teams have been working hard to offer students a great and safe experience on campus during this upcoming year. If you'll be living or dining on campus this fall, please read on for some key things to know in light of COVID-19.

This is the third important "Whitworth Way Forward" message that full-time undergraduate students have been sent in the past week. You can find all three on the university's COVID-19 website, along with FAQs on a variety of subjects. Any future updates to these messages will be reflected online.

Thank you for your attention to these messages. Protect the crew!

Whitworth Way Forward: Living on Campus

Residence Halls

  • Residence life & housing plans to be fully open this fall, with no current plan to limit visitation between residence hall floors and buildings.
  • Guests will be allowed in shared lounges. Guest visitation to rooms will be determined by the Community Behavioral Standards (CBS) process run by each residence hall senator at the start of Fall Term. In addition to respecting the visitation policy set by each CBS meeting, guests are allowed on campus for no more than two nights per month and must fill out a visitor form (see your area coordinator for more information on the visitor form).
  • Group activities will be conducted with public health guidelines in place.
  • Custodial services will be cleaning all shared spaces in residence halls multiple times per week. Residents may be asked to clean their pod living rooms and bathrooms. Supplies will be provided for disinfecting bathroom and kitchen surfaces between cleanings.
  • Students will have access to full kitchens and lounges in their buildings. Students must clean all kitchen items and surfaces after each use (cleaning supplies will be provided). Students can contact an RA to access lounge amenities such as billiards, pingpong or board games.

Dining Hall

  • The campus dining hall will be open for in-person dining.
  • Students will be free to come to the dining hall when it's open. Specific mealtimes will not be assigned to students.
  • Seating will be limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Signs and barriers are in place to aid with physical distancing.
  • Students should maintain physical distancing whenever possible while eating on campus. We encourage students to also eat with a consistent group of people (your "Crew") throughout the week.
  • Dining menus will be posted on "BITE by Sodexo."
  • Heat-mapping technology will show how busy each room in the dining hall is in real time. This information will be displayed online and on a monitor in Lied Square.
